Two grizzly attacks in one weekend | Elkford British Columbia and Grand Teton National Park #bear
May, 2024. A hunter near Elkford British Columbia and a man from Massachusetts who was visiting Grand Teton National Park were attacked within a few days of each other.
The hunter was attacked by a lone adult grizzly bear while hunting with his dogs and his father. He ended the attack by shooting the bear, likely with his hunting rifle. Both received significant injuries but are expected to recover.

FIREARM TRAINING RESOURCES
If you plan to carry a gun in bear country or anywhere I STRONGLY ADVISE that you purchase snap caps to practice with. They are a phenomenal tool for firearm training used by law enforcement and the military.
I STRONGLY ADVISE you select a color that is easily distinguished from live ammunition cartages.

Torture legal in Wyoming. Man tortures wolf, says, "It was worth it." #wolves #torture #wildspaces

Torturing wild animals legal? A man from Daniel Wyoming runs down and runs over a young wolf, a practice often called "yote whacking". The young wolf was injured so badly that it could hardly stay conscious. Mr. Roberts then bound the gravely wounded animal with duct tape, outfitted it with a shock collar and leash before parading it around for hours at a local bar. After hours of kissing and h...

    When I worked at Lake Louise we used to refer to dogs as bear bait. One of the problems being a scared dog will run toward its owners with the bear close behind.

    If this is the story I think it is, there is actual audio footage of the attack and I've heard it. It was horrible and I didn't sleep right for like a week. I can't remember what channel I watched the documentary on, but it mentioned that it was near hibernation season, and for some reason they decided to prolong their stay.

    They were all in their tent. Reading. I'm not sure how the dog would have had an impact on this tragedy.

    • @HomeInWildSpaces
      @HomeInWildSpaces 2 дні тому

      It’s not totally certain that was the case. Though it is certainly possible. Regardless. We are talking about an underweight bear heading into hibernation. The mere scent of the dog would easily have been enough to draw in a desperate bear. Bears do sometimes prey on both wild and domestic dogs. The fact that the dog was killed also suggests it participated in the event. Again, with all parties now deceased we will never have all the answers. But there are enough clues to inform the conversation about what went wrong and what the rest of us should learn from this tragedy.

    Dog and no protection… I don’t care what your feelings on guns are, if you’re going to go play out in places where nature is on full alert, you need a gun, and your dog is likely to be the protagonist for the attack. So do your diligence and protect your family… I’m 6’4 I weigh 255 lbs that’s an appetizer for an irritated grizzly especially a female with a cub near by and a dog challenging the natural order because it’s doing its best to protect its people. You probably cooked dinner, you smell like food etc. this is the outcome when hippies venture into grown people territory

    So here’s my 2 cents Born and raised in the Rocky Mountains and I got bear hunting fairly often bear spray is ok at best weather permitting and untrained people with a handguns are even worse on average 1 shot won’t be enough to put it down or stop it (yes even from a 44 mag) so expect to need multiple shots hence why 10mm is becoming so popular for black bear protection so moral of the story practice with what you carry and hope to never need it and remember the fbi says 21 feet is the minimum distance to draw and effectively shoot a human attacker now think of what that distance would be for a bear who can run at over 30mph

    This video is mostly true, but its predicated on the dog being a "non-working line" mutt. In Russia Karaelin bear dogs are used to flush and protect against bears, as in Norway. Theres also livestock guardian dogs in central asia that also warn and ward off all manner of predators. Theres an old book titled The Grizzly Bear. The author used dogs and in particular they had an game bred bitch pitbull that was hell on wheels against grizzlies in central idaho. Basically what it comes down to is your dog is a dumbed down useless mutt against wild animals or in the bush unless you have an game bred or working line type breed. A couple dogs can distract a bear and give you warning and buy you time to deploy bear spray or firearm but it needs to be a well bred dog and not your common mutt or shorthair bird dog.

    I would say the the corporations that make the bear spray should be checked now and then instead of some reading a certain brand is or is not good because the only testing we truly have is when a bear is coming at you and you spray it. I have always wondered due to the keen sense of smell a bear has that if you sprayed your boots and pants with the spray when you go into the woods maybe they won't come close or at least if they did get you down on the ground the spray on your clothes will turn them off much faster and they walk away from you. I don't go where grizzly bears are without my Dan Wesson 357 on my side as well as the spray on my chest. I have never seen a grizzly in the wild up close in my life but we do have a lot of black bear around here. They for the most part are harmless unless babies are close. You can never trust a wild animal though. Especially if it is large or even worse much larger than you.
